As an entrepreneur, you have plenty of dreams, goals, and ambitions. But I’m guessing what you don’t have in abundance is time. There’s never a shortage of things to think and worry about. But your legal matters don’t need to keep you up at night! With over fifteen years of experience running my own business, and a decade of legal experience, I truly understand what it takes to run a business and I’m here to help you with yours.

I don’t just draft legal documents...

In our fast-paced world, strong relationships and communities are more important than ever. While healthy local businesses are essential to our quality of life, owners often lack the support they need to thrive amidst constant challenges. I became a business attorney to meet this need—providing high-quality legal services with a down-to-earth approach.

The business world is complex and full of potential pitfalls. But here's the good news: I've made it my mission to navigate those challenges for you. My job is to anticipate, protect, and empower—so you can move forward with confidence

Raised between the scenic farmland of rural Wisconsin and the big city of Milwaukee, I made my way to Eugene in 1991 to attend the University of Oregon and explore the PNW (all while seeing as many Grateful Dead shows as possible). I quickly fell in love with the natural beauty, kind people, and amazing food scene Eugene had to offer. I settled in, finished college, and started a hemp clothing business and a family.

Fast forward fifteen years… I was ready for a change, so I attended UO Law with the intention of becoming an attorney representing Eugene-area small businesses. While in law school, I became obsessed with the connections between sustainability, small farms, urban agriculture, and local food systems. This passion took me to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where I earned a master of laws in agriculture and food law, and then on to small farms and food systems advocacy jobs in Morgantown, WV (consultant and policy analyst), Corvallis, OR (nonprofit executive director), and Lake Worth, FL (magazine writer and editor).

Eventually, I missed my Oregon community and being my own boss, so I came back to Eugene and hung a shingle in 2015. Over the past decade, I’ve established myself as a leading Oregon cannabis attorney and an emerging prominent Eugene business lawyer.

My path has been winding, but all the twists and turns have led me to where I am today, and there’s no place I’d rather be. My diverse experiences as an entrepreneur, advocate, researcher, writer, community builder, and attorney enable me to bring a fresh and integrated approach to my practice, an approach centered on results, respect, and integrity.

Perhaps (definitely) the most important member of the team, Sweet Pea spent her early years on a farm in Pleasant Hill, Oregon, before we met on a dark and rainy spring night in 2014. We immediately hit it off and have been inseparable ever since.

In the early days of Cassie Peters Legal, Sweet Pea took great pride in coming into the office regularly to meet with clients. Some clients found her to be a comforting presence, and she had many fans. Now that Sweet Pea is well into her fifteenth year, she is semi-retired and spends many days napping at home, but she still makes it to the office some days (where she also spends the day napping!).

SWEET PEA

Lela is the heart and soul of Cassie Peters Legal's financial and administrative operations. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy, she expertly handles bookkeeping, billing, and client file management, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. Lela's dedication to maintaining organized and precise records allows me to focus on delivering exceptional service to my clients. Her professionalism and efficiency make her an invaluable part of the team!

In her free time, Lela enjoys all the best PNW things… being in nature, hiking with her beloved pup, and of course, all things food - cooking, farming, and foraging!

HOME SWEET HOME

I moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon in 1991. But my main motivation for coming out to Oregon was to see as many Grateful Dead shows as I could. I was lucky to see Jerry play more than 100 times! I fell so deeply in love with the PNW, Oregon, and the amazing Eugene community that I decided to make Eugene my home.

I’m a Foodie

My passion for all things food-related runs deep: from small farms and local food systems to the preservation of agricultural traditions and cooking knowledge. And of course, I’m an avid supporter of our incredible local restaurants (we are truly blessed with an amazing food scene!). My obsession with food systems led me to spend five years immersed in the food and farm world, building hands-on experience that informs my practice today.

my happy place

Farmer’s markets are my happy place. Whenever I travel, I seek out local markets to explore - there’s so much to discover!. Most Saturday mornings, you can find me at the Lane County Farmer’s Market. I love it so much that I just became the market’s newest Community Director!

i'm a mom

I’m mom to Zack, my sweet son who currently dwells on the east coast. He’s my best friend and an amazing artist, freelance photographer, and graphic designer (he took the photos on this site and designed my logo!!) Being a mom, I care about the future and want future generations to have abundant opportunities to create, learn, grow, and thrive.

i love my clients

Few things bring me more joy than visiting my clients’ businesses - I love to see my clients in action, doing their thing! I truly care about the well-being of my clients and always have their best interests at heart. I’ve been blessed to work with incredible entrepreneurs, and I am honored that so many of my clients consider me to be someone they can trust and rely on.
